Main Street Living is a collection of four distinct, historic buildings. Each has its own historic tale and more character than an average apartment community. The buildings share an unbeatable location where your everyday needs are fulfilled and there is more to discover in your Main Street District neighborhood.
Our Collection:
The Kress Building - The Kress building, located at 1502 Main Street, is a nationally registered historic building. With a beautifully landscaped outdoor community space and dramatic tall windows, these units are within easy walking distance to Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse, Columbia Museum of Art, and Soda City Market (on Saturdays). The S.H. Kress & Co. 5-10-25 Cent Store is a Columbia landmark and stands as the best example of Art Deco architecture in the city.
Berry's on Main - In 1940 Joe B. Berry founded the department store Berry’s On Main. The department store was described as one of the largest women’s clothing stores in the state, with its slogan “If it’s new, it’s at Berry’s On Main.” Now the building houses beautiful residential units with exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, and high ceilings. With tons of character, and walkable to nearly everything, Berry’s apartments feature huge closets, dramatic tall windows, and a dishwasher in every unit.
The Barringer Building - Now known as the Barringer Building, this twelve-story structure on the corner of Main Street once towered over downtown as the first skyscraper built in Columbia. Barringer apartments offer unparalleled views of the Capitol and the downtown area, as well as open loft designs and huge, bright windows. Walkable to a number of restaurants, shops, and more. Experience affordable downtown living at the Barringer Building!
Tapp's - The former Tapp’s Dept. Store is a dominant figure at 1644 Main Street, standing as the only example of “Depression Modern” architecture on the street. Now home to sleek, modern residential units, the Main Street Lofts are within walking distance to much of downtown and feature concrete floors and aluminum accents. All units include spacious floor plans with large closets, dishwashers, and washer/dryers, in addition to the other amenities provided for all Main Street Living residents.
